Disclaimer: This is not a rumor I’ve heard. It’s just an idea that I’ve had and to me makes absolute sense. Someone get Les Snead and Martin Mayhew together on the phone!
We’re weeks away from the NFL trading deadline and the trades that are made usually do little but send ripples in the fantasy football world. But here is one move that makes a lot of sense to me, Mikel Leshoure to the St. Louis Rams for one of their young receivers. They have a lot of them. On the top end of the depth chart is Tavon Austin, Chris Givens, Austin Pettis, and Brian Quick. If the Rams have depth in one area, it’s there.
Its depleted area is at the running back spot. Jeff Fisher has bounced around between Daryl Richardson and Isaiah Pead. Richardson is slight and may not have starter talent, while Pead can’t keep his head straight.
Meanwhile the receiver spot is something the Lions would definitely like to upgrade. Injuries and draft picks not panning out at the number 2 receiver spot is the only blemish on an otherwise spectacular offense. The Rams won’t trade Austin, who they invested extra draft picks to move up for, but moving any of the other receivers would help acquire the big goal line back that Jeff Fisher would like to have. It would be a nice fit since Lesshoure has played in a spread style offense in Detroit and the Lions would get a young receiver who could complement Calvin Johnson.
